We recently purchased a used TRP Motors OG-1 reverse trike. We would like to add an electric reverse gear, but aren't having much luck finding something that will work because of the shape of the frame. We'd love to hear suggestions/ideas for this.

A couple ideas here, nothing super simple. I have been wanting to build a swing arm for a wide tire with an offset chain idler that has a one way bearing clutch in it hooked to a starter motor. You put an electric lock out on it hooked to the clutch switch or the neutral safety switch and then when you want to back up you kick into neutral and hit the switch and the electric motor will reverse you. Another option I have seen on here is a motor and sprocket on a swiveling panel that you rotate a lever in the cockpit and it drops the sprocket into the chain and gives you reverse, that one is a little strange. One of the best I have seen on here is box built onto the output shaft across from the output sprocket and engages the sprocket in some manner on command and then runs an electric motor to put you in reverse, pretty sure his was done as a custom machined piece attached replaced the stator housing. Looking closer at yours it looks like you already have a wide arm with possible room to place the idler shaft with starter motor. Below is a link to the mcmastercarr page for one way roller bearings. www.mcmaster.com/standard-ball-and-roller-bearings Good luck.

Were are you located? The US? Elsewhere? The folks at TriPodCars AU ( www.tripodcars.com )have a slick electric reverse with an actuator that lowers the reverse gear onto the chain. I didn't order it because I chose to use my motorcycle frame, therefore no room to install it...and I want a mechanical reverse... Captain America, Do you have the ability to split, and add the rings to make motorcycle wheels wider? I've got a local guy that makes the swingarms and widens the rear wheels. Can't use his swingarms due to the have been stretched abut 6' longer...too long to add to my rig.
