If you are interested in getting email notifications when new thread responses have been posted, here are the steps to follow:
Proboads uses a "bookmark" system if people are interested in being notified when a thread they are interested in has been updated or responded to. The nice thing about this system is that rather than getting an email EVERY single time someone posts to the forum, you get an email only on the threads you "bookmark." And you have the ability to remove "bookmarks" anytime that you stop wanting email updates about a particular thread. This provides you with total control over email coming from this site.
Step 1 -- Changing your settings: You need to click on your member "profile" at the top of the screen. Then, click on the blue tab called "bookmarks." At the very top right of the "bookmarks" header, there's a small link called "manage bookmarks" -- click on this and it will allow you to change your default notification settings. At the bottom of the "bookmarks" page there's a section for changing your default notification that says: "By default, when you bookmark a thread, what type of notification would you like to receive when a new post is made in that thread?" -- in the box directly below choose "email" as your default. Finally, click on "Update Bookmarks and Preferences" -- and you're finished.
Step 2 -- Bookmarking a thread: In order to actually recieve emails you have to choose which threads to watch. Every thread has a "bookmark" tab on the top left corner of its header, and you merely click "bookmark" when you decide that you want to recieve emails from that particular thread.
It's as easy as that! And now, you have full control over your emails. When a thread gets hijacked or goes off topic (although moderators will try to keep things ON topic), you can remove the bookmark from that thread and no longer recieve emails.
