I got this idea from the CycleKart forum. I think i may go looking at the local dealers to see what kind of deal i can get. The idea is that Ducati ships their motorcycles all over the world with a steel lightweight frame assembly (wood side and top panels)to keep the bikes from transport damage. The cost of getting rid of the crates is higher than the value of the metal. One man on the CycleKart forum said he was given the crates for free just to remove them. Perhaps this is a way to get some good steel framework for a reverse trike build. If i do get a few crates i will put the metal size spec's up here. Heres what the framework looks like.

Lot of usable metal there. Channel is not cheap. Probably contributes to the high relative price of the bikes.
I guess experience has taught them you cannot cheap out on shipping protection. Looks like lumber/plywood could do the job but maybe not.
