MAJOR update!!! After Nearly 6 Months After 1st One Died at 4 Miles, FINALLY Was Sent A Replacement AYRO 311!!! I thought I'd never see this day, after all the hemming and hawing, BS, and dozens of promises not kept. I just was delivered S/N 33. Original one was 34. It came with 1.0 mile on it. I ended up sending Title for bad one to the manufacturer over two weeks ago, and dealer was to send bad unit (which they picked up some time ago) back to them. Now the fun begins, with who knows how many problems I'll have with this one, or hopefully everything will be fine.

Weird! Even though they haven't produced any for a while, they still have the 311 shown on their website: ayro.com/ayro-311

Please do not take this wrong. I really wish you luck getting any service or parts for your trike. I am sure you will need to find another supplier of parts that will require modifications to work.

The biggest issue for me is the Lead Acid AGM batteries. After around 200- 300 charge cycles they will be down to a max of 80% and its a downward spiral from there. Replacement wise, these run about $180 each for 100 A/hr or $360 for 200 A/hr X 6 each. $1,080 to $2,160 every time. It adds up too fast for me. The cost of Li/ion is higher up front but they have 2,000 - 5,000 charge cycles before that start losing charge %.
I'd need to spend another $4500 for some Li/Ion batteries, a new Battery Maintenance System and a new charger...
They do not list what the Amp/hr battery rate is. But for the same weight of Lead Acid you can almost triple the total amp hour and get almost 3 times the range with Lithium.

Sounds like a major issue and the company is doing a "Dump the product and run". I'd be sending letters to states Attorney Generals offices.

Sounds like a major issue and the company is doing a "Dump the product and run". I'd be sending letters to states Attorney Generals offices. I actually just stumbled across the actual designer of the 311, who happens to be in Canada of all places, and have been e-mailing back and forth, and on of the things he said was: "They made several pre-production models before selling any of course. Would be foolish not to. I honestly can’t speak to any of the issues and don’t want to make assumptions. All I can say is I assure you they’re continually improving products with a great team working in the background and good momentum." His website: darrenmckeage.com/portfolio-item/311x/BTW: I'm retired, so I have plenty of time to pursue this.

What type of batteries do these have? Lead Acid or Li-Ion?
Back in 2010 a west coast distributor of the Corbin Sparrow trike had 15 trikes that had been returned due to repeat battery failures. The trike had 15 each 12 volt Deep Cycle lead acid batteries and the buyers were getting failures at 100 charge cycles. I could have bought all 15 for $3200. The 225 bad batteries I could have gotten $1000 in scrap. These had brush type 36 volt DC motors. Range was like 30 miles @ 25 MPH. Top speed was 35 MPH.
Of these 15, 5 were in real bad shape so I was going to rebuild 10 from all the best parts.
Then an upgrade of the controller, Battery Maintenance system (BMS), a SMART charger and newer 96 Volt Brushless AC motors and enough LI-Ion batteries was about $35,000 for all 10. Triple the range and double the speed. I could have sold them for about $9000 to $12,000 each.
Then I crashed my motorcycle and could not do the work so I did not buy them.
I crashed a motorcycle in 2009, 2010 and 2015. The one in April 2015 I got hit by a flying tire at 70 MPH, hit the center concrete barrier and slid 450 feet down the freeway. I broke so many things, I spent 7 days in ICU and 2 months at home learning how to walk again. July 2015 went back to work on light duty for 90 days. Then in Oct I took 4 weeks vacation and went back to work for 2 weeks and retired. I was Telephone repair so climbing telephone poles. I fought with Social Security for 3 years but finally was approved for 100% disability. So I too am retired.

I fully intend to switch to lithium, when new ones are needed. I successfully did in a golf cart; I enjoyed massive weight reduction, from 390 pound of lead-acid (6 X 65 pounds) to one (1) 36 pound, 48V lithium. The cost (including new charger) was under $600 instead of well over $700 for lead, and expect battery life went from 3-4 years to 7-10. A win-win-win..

2nd 311 breakdown update: I sent e-mail to Ayro, and they said to please deal with the dealer. I contacted dealer, and they said they will be contacting Ayro.

Apparently the dealer has had only three (3) of the 311s (and I've gone thru two of them), even though they've been advertising then constantly on Ebay for at least 8 months (probably a lot longer). I guess I'm the only one that bit!

I think I'd do some research on a complete replacement of the motor and controller, comparing just Apples to Apples with no upgrades, YET.
Get it all listed for the repairs on an Excel spreadsheet. Quote "List" prices, not any discount "Dealer Net" prices. Then hit them up with a refund 'Offer' of the parts price to do the repairs yourself.
Ether that or force them to take it back for a 100% refund. If you force them to take it back, they have basically scrap value on their hands and if it were me as the seller, I'd settle for you to keep it at a refunded price. Some of your money is better than none and now looking at a $xxxx.xx costs of repairs.
Then kick in some more cash to upgrade to better motor, controller and heaver wiring. Save up for Li batteries, Li chargers and a good BMS.

No need to save up. But I regret getting a slightly more expensive Li battery w/BMS for our golf cart at our RV lot. At times, if I'm not real careful and hit accelerator a little too hard, battery trips out, and ONLY way to reset it, is carry charger along, and push cart to nearest empty lot at RV park, and plug in charger connected to battery, and wait about 5 minutes for a reset.

There must be a setting in the controller to adjust full throttle stop. Accessing it may be the hard part.

KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid works for me.
When I was racing a Dodge Shelby Charger 2.2 5 speed, most guys were stepping on the clutch all the way to the floor. This wasted a lot of time. I made an aluminum spacer that bolted to the floor and had an adjustable peddle stop. I set it so when I stomped down it would only go far enough to disengage the clutch. So many asked if I had a solenoid actuator shifter as I could bang 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd so quick.

BTW: At a good VIN # website, I was able to decipher the exact sequence of numbers Ayro used, and determined they've made a total of only 5 of them, with the two I've been through being the 1st two (000023 and 000024). I found 000025 thru 000027. The 7th thru 9th VIN number started with 111, and go up by 2 digits with every increased VIN #. www.vindetails.com

Well, its been over 45 days. Happy Camper? Actually, they WERE going to swap out 2nd one for 3rd one (the LAST one they have). In prepping it for delivery, they ran into problems with 3rd one in their shop! They thought it may be a battery problem, so they picked up 2nd one to try batteries from that one in 3rd one. A few weeks went by in trying to get 3rd one usable, and the latest is that their tech seems to think he's figured out the 311 problem! Says there is an alarm/trip out of the motor. Something to do with coding (of controller?), which could be a design flaw in all of them. Amazing that he could have figured it out as he likely has no schematics to work with. So hopefully he will come up with a mod to eliminate the bugaboo for good and it will finally be in good working order. So apparently the motors didn't break after all. Seems unlikely that Ayro was unaware of the problem, and maybe gave up trying to find a solution and cancelled the project instead (or it could be because they were sued by Arcimoto). My hat will be off to the tech at Prime Golf Cars in WPB if he finds a true solution! It is almost 10 mos. and counting since 1st delivery!

Programming Controllers is not a task for a rookie. Even some of the simple ones you must know how to read and write code.

Even some of the simple ones you must know how to read and write code. I suppose most others would do the same. Well either they get it working and it stay working for good, or it won't. If it still is problematic after they think they fixed it, I'll give up and get my money back.
