Paddle shifting looks so cool, BUT the engineering will be something else unless you buy a kit? So I will try to keep this thread to a manual paddle shifter (cable)… and... OK now you get my interest and I hope to solve this soon. Feel free to add your input but not electric...

What if? we have handlebars and us the levers as paddle shifter, left foot clutch and right foot brakes? Maybe I need to get more sleep??? Ohhh Ya! where's the gas control?

Over the years I’ve watched many people fight with cable systems; routing, length, friction, etc. Have you thought about using hydraulics? Thin tubing, easily routed, low friction, compact, and relatively low cost. Four small actuators. Two mounted at Paddles to provide input and two mounted at transmission. Selecting neutral would be readily accomplished unlike electric systems.

OK, no one I know have done one of these on a trike.
But my input on it will be maybe look at B&M or other Racecar automatic transmission shifter cables. They are made to be used in a "Push&Pull" system. You can order them in different lengths too. You will need 2. One mounted above the shifter lever at the engine and one below for the up shift and down shift.
But will you have enough force with your fingers???

Perhaps a electronic paddle shifter would work better. I don't know anything about paddle shifter's except that my wifes 2016 toyota camry has a factory paddle shifter setup that works great. Two modes are having the shifter in drive(D) or in manual(M) mode. The manual mode keeps the transmission in the gear you select. while the drive mode still lets the trans shift up or down if the rev's get too high or low. Just a thought since a light finger pull changes gears quickly. Kinda Overkill for a street car but fun when your playing around with it. I do think it could be quite expensive to buy the whole system out of a car in a junkyard. You need the computer and all the sensors for it to work. I did not realize that the camry has a 6 speed transmission.
Here's how it works.

Anything is possible, but not necessarily safe. Check out this gokart with a 900cc Ducati engine and a home made paddle shifter complete with flimsy cables.

This should take care of the cable(s),WOW up to 7/8 threads...

I have this in storage and it should be a good start...

Did you guys think about the electronic shifter that race bike have. It might work if we can configure two of them for upshifting or downshifting.
